What
We Do
Our
Vision:
To promote
quality improvement of the laboratory diagnosis and monitoring of
HIV infection in Canada by means of encouraging research, education, and
public awareness.
Our
Goals:
- Share expertise on establishment and
maintenance of good diagnostic laboratory practices.
- Encourage laboratory research and
sharing of research
information, as well as promoting research partnerships.
- Share tangible resources with other
similar organization, laboratories.
- Promote continuing education and
training of HIV laboratory technologists, nationally and
internationally.
- Develop partnerships and working
supportive relationships with AIDS Community organizations.
Our
Activities:
- To
establish an internet forum for the purpose of: (a) exchanging
information concerning HIV laboratory
testing and research, (b) addressing common or emerging problems in
the field, and (c) providing an interactive platform in which
practitioners and experts can share and compare information with a
view to improve HIV diagnostic laboratory testing.
- To
hold an annual conference and general meeting, at a different Canadian
city each year, at which those who practice and perform HIV laboratory
testing will exchange
information with local and international practitioners to enhance and
improve common practices, and engage experts in the field of HIV
research and diagnostic laboratory testing with a view to improve and
standardize HIV diagnostic laboratory testing procedures and
protocols.
- To
receive inputs from related fields and industry partners and then
formulate a consensus on standards
for HIV diagnostic and screening laboratory testing in Canada, in
partnership with Health Canada.
- To
support activities designed to promote public awareness of the
importance of HIV diagnostic and blood screening laboratories.
- To
support training and continuous
education of technologists
working in HIV labs, nationally and internationally.
- To
support and collaborate with organizations
which promote care and treatment of HIV patients.
- To
work with and support community groups on educational issues centered
around the scope of HIV laboratory diagnostic practices and
procedures, as well as the need for testing.
- To
continually develop, improve and expand on quality management, quality
control and proficiency testing programs and activities at the
national, provincial and institutional levels.
